Roof Tear-Offs
Building codes do not allow more than two layers of roofing, so when that second layer goes, it's time for a roof tear off. How do we do it? We tear off the multiple layers down to the roof deck and, if necessary, install 7/16ths-inch plywood over the entire roof area, correctly nailing the plywood according to current building codes. If the plywood does not need to be replaced, we inspect it carefully to make sure the nail pattern is in accordance with building codes. We then install the roofing material of your choice.

Re-Roofing
Building codes allow for up to two layers of asphalt roofing. Because of this, many homes that have only one layer of roofing do not require a tear-off and new underlayment. We can save you money and install 30-year Arch Class A shingles over your existing ones - and virtually give you a brand new roof! Of course, we also update the ventilation for your roof in order to make sure it is all leak-proof.
Roofing Additions
Additions can be added to the home, and if the existing shingles are new enough, we can usually match them and weave the old and new roofs together. Alternatively, we can install a second layer on the existing shingles and install shingles on the addition so that it all dovetails and matches very nicely. We make sure the transition between the existing home and the new addition is absolutely water-tight.
Roof Repairs
Roof repairs range from wind-damaged shingles to leaks in flashing to holes caused by falling trees - and much more - because Mother Nature can be hard on roofs! We do an excellent job of matching existing shingles as closely as possible and stopping all roof leaks. We do it right the first time, so call us with confidence.
Tar-and-Gravel Roof Conversion
A conversion is a roof that has at least a 2.5/12-pitched slope and was first done with tar and gravel. By following a special process, A-Star Roofing can remove the tar and gravel and install an asphalt shingle roof in its place. A conversion from tar and gravel to asphalt shingles offers a much more appealing look for any home.
Metal Roof Installation
Metal roofs can provide a very long roof life when they are installed properly. There are many options to choose from. For instance, we can install metal roofing with exposed fasteners or install a metal roof with concealed fasteners. Also, by taking into account the location of a building, we are able to utilize the most effective underlayment for the expected weather conditions. Ask us - we are experts!
Swamp Cooler Removal
We can remove your old swamp cooler and fill in the hole by cutting the plywood back to the trusses and installing a piece of precision-cut plywood. We then install an ice and water shield as underlayment and install shingles on top of that so that they match your existing shingles. The final result is that it would take a "roof detective" to discover you ever had a swamp cooler in the first place! Of course, it goes without saying that we make sure our work is leak-free.
Aluminum Coatings for Torch Down Membranes
Aluminum fiber coating can help prolong the life of a torch down membrane roof system. The fiber fills in the cracks made by the sun, and the aluminum helps to reflect the heat and sun, which allows the roof system to last longer. We first clean the roof area and then paint it with aluminum fibered paint.
Wood Shake Shingle Treatment
Within five years of having new wood shake shingles installed, it is beneficial to treat them with boiled linseed oil and Thompson's water seal. This helps to retain the moisture in the wood, which allows the shingles to last longer than they would if left untreated and facing the elements. We highly recommend this maintenance procedure, and you can rest assured that we take great care to ensure that the treatment does not harm your foliage or stain any exterior finishes.
Gutter Cleaning
We clean out gutters and remove built-up sediment and leaves that can cause blockages. We also specialize in the installation of seamless aluminum gutters.

Heat Tape Installation
We install heat tape in areas that tend to collect snow and ice in order to ensure timely melt-off and prevent harmful ice damming, which can lead inevitably to roof leaks.
